This process results in the formation of a trench. This process results in the formation of a trench. Continent-Continent Convergent Plate Boundaries Explains that mountain ranges are created where two continental plates come together at a convergent plate boundary. The collision of tectonic plates can result in earthquakes, volcanoes, the formation of mountains, and other geological events. 2. Progress If two tectonic plates collide, they form a convergent plate boundary. Where continental crust meets continental crust Both continental crusts are too light to subduct so a continent-continent collision occurs, creating especially large mountain ranges. One plate eventually slides beneath the other, a process known as subduction. The subduction zone can be defined by a plane where many earthquakes occur, called the WadatiâBenioff zone. In a convergent design (sometimes referred to as a concurrent design), the qualitative and quantitative data are collected and analyzed during a similar timeframe. Learn more. At convergent boundaries, plates collide with one another. Plate collision can produce earthquake, volcanoes, mountains formation, and other geological event. Northward migration of India Note that this figure is a simplification and does not take into account the huge amount of crustal shortening that would have occurred in both the Eurasian and Indian plates. Convergent boundaries can also form islands. Convergent margin Transform fault (arrows show relative motion) PLATE BOUNDARIES Most of the worldâs earthquakes and volcanoes are found at or near the boundary between two tectonic plates. Transform Fault Boundaries Transform Fault Boundaries- When two plates slide past one another, the type of boundary occurs along a transform fault. All of the plate boundaries that occur down the center of the Atlantic Ocean are divergent boundaries that follow the crest of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Friction between the plates keeps them from sliding. During this timeframe, an interactive approach may be used where iteratively data collection and analysis drives changes in the data collection procedures.
