Classical Electrodynamics with Geometric Algebra. They are a lightly edited version of notes I handed out while teaching Physics 8.962, the graduate course in GR at MIT, during the Spring of 1996. General relativity, also known as the general theory of relativity, is the geometric theory of gravitation published by Albert Einstein in 1915 and is the current description of gravitation in modern physics.General relativity generalizes special relativity and refines Newton's law of universal gravitation, providing a unified description of gravity as a geometric property of space and time or . This is a generalization of linearized theory. Einstein's theory of general relativity (GR) has stood strong for more than 100 years, but technology has given astronomers the chance to probe the limits of GR even further. Date. This first-year graduate-level text and reference book covers the fundamental concepts and twenty-first-century applications of six major areas of classical physics that every masters- or PhD-level physicist should be exposed to, but often isn't: statistical physics, optics (waves of all sorts), elastodynamics, fluid mechanics, plasma physics, and special and general relativity and cosmology. This lecture presents a synopsis of the post-Newtonian method for iteratively improving solutions in a way that encodes the Newtonian limit of general relativity, as well as a brief discussion of black hole perturbation theory, which can be used to describe systems that contain a black hole and small amount of "something else" (either a . Tests of general relativity serve to establish observational evidence for the theory of general relativity. The first three tests, proposed by Albert Einstein in 1915, concerned the "anomalous" precession of the perihelion of Mercury, the bending of light in gravitational fields, and the gravitational redshift. The precession of Mercury was already known; experiments showing light bending in . Any recommendations on introductory math related to general relativity for someone with an engineering background? It explains the geometry of curved spaces and contains key solutions of Einstein's equations - the Schwarzschild and Kerr solutions. My personal spin on this topic is to spend half of the course focused on the formal mathematical framework (not getting too sophisticated, just making sure to carefully develop differential geometry well enough that all the important curvature tensors .
